The most popular poker tournament for players at the 2015 World Series of Poker is going to be the “Colossus.” The event will feature just a $565 buy-in and a guaranteed prize pool of $5 million dollars. Poker pros will be playing in this event because of the prize pool and because they can rebuy.
World Series of Poker officials have already said that this tournament will set a record for the most entries ever. The most entries the Rio can handle are 24,200. Players eliminated in an early day can rebuy for another $565. The first day of action will feature 10, 40-minute levels which means 7 hours and 45 minutes of real time. Each table will begin 10-handed instead of the normal nine-handed. This event is expected to determine a winner on June 2nd but it could stretch to June 3rd based on the number of entries expected.
The record entries for a live poker tournament were set in 2006 when the main event had 8,773 players. There is no doubt that the Colossus will break that mark although it should be noted that the Colossus is going to count entries instead of players since players can re-buy.
The 2015 World Series of Poker begins in late May at the Rio in Las Vegas, Nevada and runs through early July when the November Nine is determined. Those players then return in November to determine the main event champion.
