The first-ever WSOP Asia Pacific main event was won by poker pro Daniel Negreanu. It was the fifth World Series of Poker bracelet for Negreanu who also took home more than $1 million for the win.
A total of 405 players put up $10,000 Australian dollars which made for a prize pool of almost $4 million dollars. In the end it was Negreanu who won the big event. “I needed the win and wanted it so bad; I didn't want any drama; I just needed to get that monkey off my back. It helps my confidence going into Vegas," said Negreanu.
The inaugural WSOP Asia Pacific tournament was held in Australia and the many tournaments attracted 1,910 players with more than $6.1 million dollar in prize money. There were five WSOP gold bracelets awarded. Negreanu won the main event while the other four winners were Phil Ivey, Bryan Piccioli, Aaron Lim and Jim Collopy.
The main event of the WSOP Asia Pacific was an exciting tournament that features a strong final table. Negreanu was joined at the final table by German poker pro Benny Spindler, 2012 WSOP main event fourth-place finisher Russell Thomas and Hong Kong's poker pro Winfred Yu. Other poker pros who finished in the money were Antonio Esfandiari, Raymond Rahme, Joseph Cheong, Jeffrey Lisandro and Erik Seidel.
