Professional poker player Mike “The Mouth” Matusow recently took home the first place prize of $750,000 for winning the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship. A field of 64 players competed in a bracket style format and it was Matusow who ended up outlasting everyone.
The NBC Head-Up Poker Championship started with 64 players who put up $25,000 each for a shot at the title. Matusow had to win six matches including the final against poker pro Phil Hellmuth. “I’m on top of the world right now.” Matsuow said, “There is nothing that feels better than winning a tournament. Nothing. I hadn’t won one since 2008. I have only played about 40 since then, and these guys play about 40 a week. But, you know man, I feel good.”
Matusow defeated some top players on his way to the title as he beat Michael Mizrachi, Viktor Blom, Barry Greenstein, John Hennigan, Scott Seiver and Phil Hellmuth. The final between Matusow was a best-of-three. Matusow won the first match but Hellmuth came back to win the second before Matusow won the third and deciding match.
